ARTICLE I ∙ MEMBERSHIP

SECTION  I     ELIGIBILITY.

There shall be two types of membership open to all persons, eighteen (18) years of age or older, who are in good standing with the American Kennel Club and who subscribe to the purpose of this Club.

  1. INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIP.
  2. FAMILY MEMBERSHIP, which consists of husband and wife and children under age eighteen (18). Husband and wife shall each have one (1) vote in all Club matters. Upon reaching the age of eighteen (18), children in the family membership must apply for individual membership as a new applicant.
  3. While membership is to be restricted as to residence, the Club’s primary purpose is to be representative of the breeders and exhibitors in the greater Tampa Bay Area.

SECTION  II    DUES.

Membership dues shall not be more than fifteen dollars ($15.00) per individual or twenty dollars ($20.00) per family per year, payable on or before the first (1st) day of January of each current year. No member may vote whose dues are not paid for the current year. During the month of November, the Treasurer shall send to each member a statement of dues for the coming year.

SECTION  III   ELECTION TO MEMBERSHIP.

  1. Each applicant for membership shall apply on a form as approved by the Board of Directors and which shall provide that the applicant agrees to abide by this Constitution and By-Laws and the Rules of the American Kennel Club. The application shall state the name(s) and address of the applicant9(s) and it shall carry the recommendation of two (2) members in good standing.
  2. Accompanying the application, the prospective members shall submit dues payment for the current year. Any outstanding debt to the Club must be paid before any application for membership will be accepted.
  3. All applications are to be filed with the Secretary and each application shall be read at the first (1st) Club meeting following its receipt. The applicant(s) shall attend at least one (1) meeting of the Club as its guest(s). At the next Club meeting, following reading of such application, said application will be voted upon by secret, written ballot. An affirmative vote of three quarters (3/4) of the members in good standing, present and voting, shall be required to elect the applicant(s) to membership. The requirement for a secret, written ballot may be waived by a majority of the members in good standing, present and voting.  Any applicant(s) who are elected to membership during the fourth (4th) quarter of the current fiscal year will carry over and not be assessed membership dues for the ensuing fiscal year.
  4. Applicant(s) for membership who have been rejected by the Club may not reapply within six (6) months of rejection. Dues submitted with the application will be refunded upon rejection of the application.

Dues obligations are considered a debt to the Club and they become incurred on the first (1st) day of each fiscal year. Any dues or outstanding debt must be paid before any membership can be renewed.
  2. By lapsing. A membership will be considered as lapsed and automatically terminated if such members dues remain unpaid ninety (90) days after the (1st) day of the fiscal year; however, the Board of Directors may grant an additional thirty (30) days of grace to such delinquent members upon written application to the Board setting forth the particulars. In no case may a person be entitled to vote if his or her dues are unpaid as of the date of that meeting.
  3. By expulsion. A membership may be terminated by expulsion as provided by Article VI of these By-Laws.
